The Guest Experience at Smart Hotels

Smart hotels will provide the right data, to the right guest, to the right location at the right time, says Ted Horner, managing director of technology consulting company E. Horner & Associates. Perks like keyless entry, digital signage, high-speed Wi-Fi and connected devices are now the norm at innovative hotels. However, in guest rooms, hotels will need to know the line between too much and too little technology in order to match guest demand. 3 Trends Shaping Golf's Future

A survey by Golf Inc. and Sports & Leisure Research Group, found that when golf facilities implemented best practices (large golf shop, on-site child care, women-friendly, etc.), a 16 percent increase in play resulted. Also, private clubs have significantly increased efforts to attract younger members, new golfers, women and families in recent years. These strategies are directly correlated with a boost in member retention, reports the survey. Delivering golf content is another key trend as technology use on the golf course has increased 11 percent year over year since 2013. Informed marketing and operational decisions is the third big trend, which includes discovering what makes the game most fun for golfers: course conditioning, social aspects, and value and accessibility. Golf Inc. and Sports & Leisure Research Group.

Club Death Provides Important OSHA Lessons

A staff person died earlier this year at an Ohio club, devastating the community and launching penalties and investigations into the matter from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). The club failed to properly report the death, resulting in a potential fine of nearly $6,500. Through the investigation, OSHA also cited the club for failing to properly record injuries and discovered that the club was not properly training staff when handling hazardous materials. Through this incident, the club suffered unforeseen penalties and mandates from OSHA, providing a cautionary tale regarding workplace safety. Club & Resort Business.
